Window Tinting Red Deer

Picture
Window tint is a cost-effective way to customize the look of your vehicle. It’s also a great way to improve the inside too. This is because it reduces the amount of ultraviolet radiation entering your car or truck which helps to minimizing the fading of your vehicle’s interior surfaces and upholstery. Just like sunscreen protects you, tinted windows protect the inside of your automobile by creating a high SPF barrier. This can translate into improved resale value should you ever decide to sell.

Our various car window tint service packages are also a great way to protect you yourself from excessive exposure to harmful UV rays. Did you know that in North America people experience more Sun damage to the left side of their faces because they drive on the left side, whereas in Australia, drivers have more Sun damage to the right side of their faces and arms because their right side is exposed to more UV radiation! Besides protecting your skin from damaging rays, our products can help to protect your eyes by reducing headlight glare from other vehicles as well as offer you extra privacy when you’re out and about. Ask us about our prices including genuine 3M Automotive Tint, PROSKIN™, and dyed coloured sheets.

Applying tinted films to your windows is also a great way to reduce the amount of sunlight that would otherwise heat up the inside of your car on a hot day, this in turn allows you to run the A/C on a lower setting or turn it off all together which helps improve gas mileage and engine performance.

In addition to 3M and Proskin™  there are 5 main styles of tint:

Dyed | Metalized | Hybrid| Carbon | Ceramic
Dyed versions are applied more so for its aesthetic appeal over functionality as it is one of the darker hues and is virtually opaque black.  Applying this version in conjunction with a chrome delete would give your car that "stealth" look. Some of the advantages of dyed film are its cost-effectiveness, glare reduction properties, non-reflective properties, and it provides the darkest shades of black. There are some downsides though, for example: it can delaminate (meaning the layers separate which can require complete removal and re-installation of new film), it isn’t able to block out as much heat as other tinting applications, and it can fade over time and develop a translucent purple tinge.

Metalized applications are essentially a multi-layered skin that has metallic particles suspended within it to reflect excessive light and heat. While it is durable, does not fade, and insulates your car interior from heat, its disadvantages often outweigh its advantages. The trouble with suspended metal particle formulations are the cost, metallic looking or mirrored appearance, and the fact that it can interfere with GPS, radio, and cell signals.

Hybrid covering takes the best of dyed and metalized coatings and discards the worst. It blocks heat but doesn’t have a mirrored look, it won’t disrupt your electronic’s connectivity, it has a better price point, is durable, and doesn’t fade.

Carbon layering offers a matte finish for a unique look. Think charcoal black. This option is perfect for a very custom feel to your ride. The unique carbon polymer won’t interfere with your electronics and it prevents infrared light from fading your interior. It is a durable application that will not fade and looks good when coupled with a vehicle wrap.

Ceramic  coatings are the highest quality product you can apply to your vehicle’s windows. Rather than dyes or carbon or metallic particles, it uses ceramic particles to filter and reflect light and heat away from your eyes and vehicle interior. It provides the greatest visibility for the occupants, reflects the most heat and light, and is the most durable of the listed window tints. It’s only downside is cost, but it excels in all other areas of its intended use.

When you let the professionals at red deer window tinting install your preferred package, they will begin the process of applying your chosen coloured adhesive films by removing any glass that can roll down so it can be applied to the entire surface of the part. Once removed, any stickers, logos, decals and adhesives will be removed, and any dirt and grime is washed away using hot soapy water. Ethanol is used to wipe away any oily residues that would interfere with the car window films bonding process; as well as eliminate any contaminants such as ammonia based cleaning residues that could result in discolouration of the tint. Finally every inch is wiped down with a microfibre cloth to ensure no debris will find itself between the adhesive application application and the surface of the glass pane.

Many of the office towers you see downtown have reflective coatings applied to their glazing to minimize the intensity of sunlight by reducing its ability to pass through the glass and this principle also applies to automobile window tinting. The technical term is Visible Light Transmission or VLT. In the case of office tower glass it is typically glazed by the pane manufacturer which is also the case in some luxury vehicle windows as well. This is accomplished by dying the glass with darkening pigmentation during the fabrication process as opposed to aftermarket applications which are generally applied films. Colloquially known as factory tint, it typically has a visible light transmission reduction in the range of 15 - 25%. The term for the dying process is known as Electrical Deep Dipping or EDE. Although this type of pane will darken the window to provide a clean tinted look, it does not offer UVA or UVB protection or even heat rejection.

Applied window films can also display iridescence (think oil slick on water). The angle of incidence of reflected light can even be manipulated such that the film will act as a two way mirror. The term for this effect is Thin Film Interference and is sometimes caused intentionally  such as in use on sunglasses or police interrogation rooms, but it also occurs unintentionally when the exterior lighting is less than interior lighting making it difficult to see outside. Scratch resistant protective coatings tend to enhance this effect especially in the presence of fluorescent lighting so be aware of your intended outcome when using this product.
